Notes

Maybe a somewhat controversial view, but I've always considered Spanish restaurants in London overpriced and underspecified, i.e. my feeling is whilst the food is lovely, most of the tapas style dishes can be made inexpensively and quickly at home. So, time to put this to the test, and my epicurean reputation on the line.

I decided to cut my teeth with the very simple Chilli Garlic Mushrooms from another of the wonderful Australian Women's Weekly range of cookbooks. True enough (in this instance of course haha!) it was ridiculously easy and the dish matched my expectations. A lovely snack or side dish or vegetable course to accompany something a little more substantial. In fact, I paired this dish with the Spicy Pork Skewers from the same book.

Changes from Published Recipe

The measurements proved problematic - the book recipe specified 1kg of mushrooms, which is enough to feed a hungry army. My pre-packed punnet weighed in at a lightweight 150g, so some rough and ready calculations were required to avoid overwhelming the recipe with one ingredient or another. I'm not sure I got this totally correct; I went for one clove of garlic (the book suggested 6 cloves) yet I can't help but feel another clove would have been beneficial. I also went for one red chilli (without seeds) and that give the recipe a sufficient lift :)
