This is a wonderful early evening snack, and something that can be enjoyed whilst watching sport on TV - the ultimate finger food. I've also discovered empirically it goes very well with beer!

Rachel Allen's Korean Beef with Avocado Rice

Rachel Allen's recipes are usually very easy to put together, and this Korean Beef with Avocado Rice is no exception. The mixture of rice / avocado / lime is lovely and refreshing and neatly offsets the tangy sauce on the beef.

Rachel Allen's Classic Lasagne with Roast Garlic Bread

I've always eschewed making lasagne in the past because of the hassle of making both the Bolognese sauce and the Bechemel sauce, then cooking the ensemble for a further 30-40 minutes whilst the lasagne sheets soften. In reality, whilst this doesn't really represent a great deal of brute force, there is always plenty going on. You aught to find enough time to do the lion's share of the washing up whilst the dish is cooking in the oven even if (like I did) you follow the recipe to the letter and make the garlic bread and green salad to complement the lasagne.

Rocky Road Crunch Bars

I first encountered Rocky Road Crunch Bars in Starbucks - simply divine with an Americano. Nigella Lawson popped up with a recipe of her own in her boook Nigella Express. As the book's title may suggest, all recipes are easily and quickly made, and the crunch bars are no exception. It is a fridge cake so no baking is required.

Sourcing the mini-marshmallows proved troublesome, but in the end I found them available from large Sainsburys branches. The Rich Tea biscuits can be from the 'Value' range of products and are very cheap.

Mega Beef Burger with Fried Egg and Bacon

Forget the whole notion of going to one of those dreadful gourmet burger restaurants. What a waste of money! The Mega Beef Burger is without doubt the best burger ever to pass my lips, and I am sorry to admit, that's from quite a large field.

Bill Granger's Pork Meatballs with Curry Sauce

This delicious curry uses Massamann curry paste (other spellings available), although despite what Bill Granger says, it is not available in supermarkets - I know because I hunted high and low in some extremely well stocked London examples. So to track down a tub of the paste you will need to either buy online or go to a specialist Eastern cuisine supermarket. I got mine from Hammersmith at Thai Smile, although in the past I've been successful buying it at Talad Thai in Putney.
